Make learning Fun !
At Dino Lingo, we understand that young children do not have a focused goal to study a foreign language which will ultimately enhance their immediate and long term growth and development. A child's goal is to play and have fun and they learn through repetition and it is for this very reason, Dino Lingo designed and created this simple, unique and 'fun focused' language learning 'process' that appeals to the interests of a young developing mind. Through your encouragement and mentorship as a caregiver, you may facilitate and encourage fun conversations surrounding our language learning DVD's. You can find ways to reward your child as they learn a new word or song in our lessons. You set the timing and learning schedule that fits into your families own work / life balance needs. Your child will enjoy more and more learning Dino Lingo activities through your personal participation and excitement to have fun with our characters (e.g., telling them this DVD was given to you by a dinosaur or taking them to zoo afterwards and asking them the name of the animals in the target language)
Repeat with them
It is proven over and over again that repetition is the best way to learn a different language. Please watch the DVD together with you children and repeat out loud with them. Children strongly identify with their parents and caregivers involvement and interest in their world of play so role-model with them; seeing you participate by repeating the words and songs and jingles will increase their engagement resulting in higher comprehension.
Watch & Interact with your young scholar
According to a scientific study, kids who are accompanied by their caregivers while watching TV reported learning more (a.k.a. maternal co-viewing). This is mostly because, kids automatically think if their caregivers are with them, it must be important. Additionally, in an experiment, where children's group #1 was asked questions by their parents and another group were not, the children in group #1 scored higher in their learning tests. Other studies suggest the significance of co-viewing with their peers and friends as children can interact together during the show, paying attention to the program and each other simultaneously. The Dino Lingo team have developed these language learning programs as a valuable 'tool' for parents and caregivers alike to benefit from as they multi task during their busy day. We recognize that every moment is a learning experience.
Limit lesson viewing time
We always ask our kids to take small bites when eating and not to gobble down everything at once. Since children have very lower attention span, it is recommended that they take regular breaks when watching the DVD's rather than viewing all episodes at once. They need breaks for many health reasons but from an education point of view, if allows them to digest the lesson just viewed. This mental 'break' repeat the lessons in their minds eye and it is this process, developed through individual free play, exercise and conversations with you and their friends that empowers the learning process in your child that will last a lifetime.
Pause & Quiz fun moments
There are mini quizzes at the end of each episode and you are strongly advised to watch these sections with your kid and elaborate on them in ways that work for you. Rewards and challenging activities will increase her/his interest and reinforce what she/he learnt. You can pause the video at anytime to ask questions and ask their thoughts on what`s happening in the story and we encourage you to personalize the story to your own. Do not forget, this is a fun process so never punish them for their mistakes as this will take the fun out of it. Play with them give comments and ask questions on whatever they are saying as this will increase their attention to the topic and further develop a bond with you and your child as they start their live learning process. We also encourage you ti play bilingual family games or sing songs with your kid to make this process more fun and facilitate 'repetition' which your child will relate best to.
