Hindi Tongue Twisters That’ll Make You Laugh

Tongue twisters are silly, speedy, and so much fun! In Hindi, they also help children practice tough sounds and build confidence. Plus, they’re a great way to sneak in some giggles while learning.

Why Tongue Twisters Help Kids Learn

Tongue twisters are short, repeated phrases that challenge the mouth and mind. In Hindi, they often include unique sounds that are fun to master—like “ṭ,” “ṛ,” and “ś.” Practicing them builds pronunciation, rhythm, and focus.

Popular Hindi Tongue Twisters

Here are a few kid-friendly ones to try:

  • Chandu ke chacha ne Chandu ki chachi ko chandni chowk mein chandi ke chamach se chatni chatai(Chandu’s uncle fed chutney to Chandu’s aunt with a silver spoon at Chandni Chowk!)
  • Kaccha papad, pakka papad(Raw papad, cooked papad—try saying that 5 times fast!)
  • Upar pankha, neeche pankhi(Fan above, fan blade below—say it without getting tangled!)

Say the tongue twister in front of a mirror and watch your mouth move. Can you go faster each time without messing up?

Twister Toss

Write different tongue twisters on paper, fold them up, and toss into a bowl. Each child picks one and performs it for the group.
