Israel has 67 national parks and 190 nature reserves.  The Israel National Trail is a hiking path that crosses the entire country of Israel.  It begins at Dan, in the north by the Syrian and Lebanese borders and extends to Eilat at the southernmost tip on the Red Sea.  The trail is 940 kilometers (580 miles) and takes 30-70 days to walk the entire trail. There are several other hiking trails that feature different spots in the Holy Land.

There are over 200 museums in Israel making this the highest number of museums per people in the world.  Popular museums include the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, Tower of David Museum of the History of Jerusalem, Yad Vashem (Israelā€™s Holocaust Memorial), Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Diaspora Museum and Haifa Museum of Science and Technology.

Jerusalem

Jerusalem is the most visited Israeli city with 3.5 million tourists annually.  It is one of the oldest cities in the world.  It is also the capital and largest city in Israel.  Jerusalem is the holy city to three major religions:  Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv is Israelā€™s second largest city.  It has a large city feel with 3 million people.  Many people also come to Tel Aviv for its beaches.  There are many art museums and lots of activity.  Tel Aviv is called the ā€œcity that never sleepsā€.

Haifa

Haifa is an old city where camels were bought and sold.

Tiberias

Tiberias is one of the four holy cities in Judaism.  It overlooks the Sea of Galilee.  It is home to Saint Peterā€™s house at Capernaum and the Mount of Beatitudes.

Nazareth

Nazareth is known as the Arab capital of Israel.  It is home to Jesus and the site of many Biblical acts and miracles.  The Church of the Annunciation, the largest Christian church in the Middle East, is located here.

Bet Sheā€™an

Bet Sheā€™an was a Roman city.  It is one of the largest archaeological sites in the Middle East.

Eliat

Eliat is Israelā€™s southernmost city.  Located on the Red Sea coast, it is a hot, sunny travel spot.  People enjoy the beaches, swimming, and scuba diving.

Caesarea

Caesarea has an old city which includes Roman and Crusader ruins.  Today, live concerts are held with classical and popular music in the amphitheater.  The city overlooks the harbor from which St. Paul was taken as a prisoner to Rome.

The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on the Earthā€™s surface.  It is the deepest salt lake in the world.  The Dead Sea is famous for its buoyancy and its medicinal qualities.

The Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee has several sunny beaches.  There are many important Christian holy sites in the area of the sea.  Many biblical stories have been told about the disciples fishing and the storms on this sea.
