Persians loved sweets, too. They may have created the very first cookies and even found a way to make early versions of ice cream using snow stored in underground coolers called yakhchals—ancient refrigerators made of clay!

Persians made amazing discoveries in science. They were the first to use alcohol in medicine and built teaching hospitals where doctors could learn. Persian thinkers also helped develop algebra and trigonometry, important parts of modern math.

They even made batteries out of clay pots, metal, and vinegar—long before electricity was common. And to keep cool in hot weather, they invented “wind catchers,” tall towers that brought fresh air into homes.

Long ago, Persians needed smart systems to manage their growing empire. They invented one of the world’s first banking systems, including early versions of checks. They created a fast postal system with horses and riders, like today’s mail delivery.

They also invented the tax system, which helped collect money for schools, roads, and buildings. Their engineers even designed an early version of the Suez Canal to connect seas and trade routes.
